BY THE BOOK – A Few Thoughts from ESPNU Lacrosse Analyst Booker Corrigan
Shack will easily remind the average fan of his siblings Wells (JHU) and Steele (UVa), but if you look deeper, you may see a resemblance to former Princeton attackman Ryan Boyle. If I had the chance to coach Shack, I would support his decision making, and simply signal to him about where I felt our teams sense of urgency needed to be at any given moment of a game. He takes direction well, and can diagnose a game on a deeper level than most players. I would love to be able to guide him to push it as often as possible, yet clearly indicate to him when we need to throttle back a bit (if ever). He brings a stack of “Intangibles” to the game that is so large, you can actually reach out and touch it.

Booker’s Movie Quote: The movie quote I would use to encapsulate Shack would be Ron Burgundy telling Baxter “You know how to cut to the core of me, Baxter. You’re so wise. Like a miniature Buddha, covered in hair.” from “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy”

Shack can cut to the core of the opponent, and he is wise. And he leaves his defenders in a glass case of emotion.

A FEW QUESTIONS – Shack Stanwick
Do you have a favorite player? My favorite player was Mike Powell. He was so good at every aspect of his game and so athletic. I wish he would have kept playing

What is your perfect post game meal? I love when my parents cook up burgers when it starts to get warm outside.

If you could be on any other professional team, which team would it be? I’d play for the Washington Capitals alongside Alex Ovechkin. Hockey is such a cool sport and I have a lot of respect for those guys.

What song would you sing if you had to sing karaoke to save your own life? The song “Save Tonight” by Eagle Eye Cherry was probably on over 10 cd’s growing up so I pretty much know every word. The singing would be horrendous though.

What lacrosse memory brings you joy when you are stuck in traffic? Scoring the overtime goal against St Paul’s my freshman year.

What is your favorite sports movie? There are so many good sports movies. “Miracle” is probably my favorite, and then “The Sandlot” might be next along with a handful of others.

What rule would you like to add, or remove, from the lacrosse rule book? It’d be cool if they brought the Dive back into the game. That call can be pretty subjective so I think it would avoid some confusion.

What one specific college lacrosse game do you wish you had played in? Any championship game would be cool. But when Virginia and Maryland went into seven OT’s was probably the craziest game I’ve seen.
