The New York Lizards and the Rochester Rattlers have reached the finish line. The championship game will be played at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, GA, with the opening faceoff at 7 p.m., on CBSSN.
In the beginning of the season, we watched the NY Lizards dominate, and up until they played the Charlotte Hounds, on June 30th, many thought they would finish off the season undefeated. On Saturday, they will head to the finals with four losses and ten wins. The Rochester Rattlers had a rocky start to the season but have ultimately finished strong, with a solid eight wins and six losses.
This game will bring the Syracuse alums Kevin Rice, Randy Staats and Hakeem Lecky face to face. This dynamic trio dominated in the Carrier Dome and now Staats and Rice will be playing against Lecky for the MLL Cup. Kevin Rice and Randy Staats were a force to be reckoned with on Saturday, August 1st, during the playoffs, against the Ohio machines. Together, Rice had 3 goals, 1 assist, and Staats had 2 goals, 1 assist. Will the pair be able to do it again this Saturday?
Both Greg Gurenlian and the Rochesters Rattlers were recipients of the the USL/MLL Sportsmanship award this season. These selections were based on voting conducted among the league’s game officials. Both selections were made before the two teams had began the playoffs, on July 27th, 2015. Today, Drew Adams, of the NY Lizards was also awarded Goalie of the Year, “I think this is a testament to the team,” said Adams of winning the award. “My play was just a result of some of the great guys in front of me. Our defense did a great job this year and our offense was super productive.” Adams and John Galloway are arguable two of the best goalies in the league, and with 15 saves during the playoffs, against the Ohio Machines, Galloway is prepared for a fight this Saturday.
