LACROSSE.COM Play Test: Nike Lunar

Today I am going take a closer look at Nike’s Lunar, on a Nike 10-degree shaft. Now the beauty of the 10-degree shaft is that it can be paired with either an STX Crux 500 head or the Nike Lunar. I love the 10-degree shaft; because of the accuracy the slight angle brings to your shot, sending the ball directly where you aim it, with perfect precision.

The subtle texture at the bottom of the Nike 10-degree shaft eliminates the need for tape, and the lightweight feel is definitely an added benefit. This is an expensive stick, but the benefits it brings to your game will definitely outweigh the cost.

Now whether it is the STX 500, or the Nike Lunar, everyone wants to know about the launch pocket. Everything you need to know is in that first catch. The moment the ball hits the pocket you can feel the difference. It really is like no other pocket. It cradles the ball towards the center of the pocket, keeping it in place until you are ready to make a pass, or that perfect shot. This stick allows you to shoot from any angle and hit the corners of the goal just right. When it comes down to split second decisions on the field, I don’t have to think, it gives me the confidence to make the risky pass or take that tough shot, because I know the ball is going directly where I aim it.

When it comes to ground balls, I find the same outcome to be true. The defined angle of the scoop allows for a quick and easy pickup. Once the ball hits the top of your stick, the Lunar does the rest of the work for you, it brings the ball to the center of your head, while the launch pocket keeps it in place.

I have never been more impressed with a stick, and I have used Debeer for most of my career. It took me a little while to get used to added height it brings to your passes, but after a few uses I became more and more comfortable with it. At first I was worried that the launch pocket may come untied, but it never does! However, if you wanted to adjust the pocket for your own comfort, untying and retying is effortless. The durability of head itself is impressive. Checking, plays a major role in the fast paced game of lacrosse, and this stick can take a beating. I would definitely consider making the switch to the Nike Lunar!
