Major League Lacrosse (MLL) was formed in 1999 and began professional play in 2001. MLL was founded by fitness guru Jake Steinfeld from 'Body by Jake' fame with the mantra of "Take it Outside" as the first professional outdoor lacrosse league. There were originally six MLL franchises and the league has grown to as many as ten teams in cities such as Los Angeles and Chicago. Currently, MLL has eight teams playing mostly in the eastern United States. MLL plays a 16 game schedule that runs from late April through August culminating in the MLL Championship weekend, where the winning team takes home the MLL Steinfeld Cup.
