About the HEADstrong Foundation:
Nicholas "Head" Colleluori played Division I lacrosse at Hofstra University. During his sophomore year, Nicholas began to experience allergy-like symptoms. Soon thereafter, he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a vicious type of blood cancer that affects the lymphatic system. Nick passed away on November 28, 2006 at the age of 21.
While sick, Nicholas was relentless in his efforts to combat his affliction. He counseled fellow patients, continued to workout on a regular basis, and he even played in one last game in August of 2006. Nick also created the HEADstrong Foundation. It was his vision to share his illness with the public, to raise cancer awareness and to help others affected by the disease.
Even though Nick is gone, his memory will live on forever through the HEADstrong Foundation. Our Mission is to help fund cancer research, distribute grants and assistance to survivors of blood cancer, provide financial assistance to families burdened with the expenses of cancer treatment, and to provide scholarships for future medical students.
